Currently we have a huge problem in our schools and it gets worse each year. In fact as a volunteer I have done the; Teacher for a Day Program at the local schools. What I find when I get there is classrooms out of control and teachers babysitting and complaining about the unruly kids. When discussing this with teachers they tell me that there is nothing they can do without being sued and it is hard to discipline the kids without breaking school policy. In fact they say that during teacher parent conferences the parents do not even believe them when they tell them that their "innocent little Johnny" is quite the class clown and trouble-maker. So what is a teacher to do at this point? The biggest issue I have questions with now is that if "no child is left behind" and the kids screw off all day, then no one can learn and thus while teaching to the middle they effectively have adopted a policy of; "No child allowed to advance" and quite frankly this troubles me. We must challenge our children and little humans to push harder in their academic achievements. We must accelerate student advancement. If we are to have special classes for the those children with learning disabilities, then we must have equally as many on staff for those who excel, other wise we reward underachievement and punish over achievement. Yet we know in the future we will need the best and brightest at their peaks to run the flows of our civilization. I hope you will consider this in 2006. |
