3 Great Presidents Day Party Ideas

Author: Gail Leino

President's Day is traditionally celebrated with a day off for postal workers and students. It was originally George Washington's birthday, but got combined with Lincoln's birthday to become the national holiday. Many businesses close to allow employees a chance to celebrate the holiday. For offices that have to be open it may be fun to have an office party on president's day to give your employees a chance to relax. Or parents can ask for that day off of work to take their kids on a mini field trip to learn about the holiday.

This is an excellent chance to teach your child a little bit about the governmental system of our country. If you live there you may wish to tour the monuments in Washington D.C. There are lots to choose from, Presidential Memorials, the White House, and the Capital Building, so become a tourist for a day and explore your capital city. If you don't live near Washington, which is true for the majority of us, you can still celebrate by touring the buildings of local government. There may even be some monuments dedicated to president near your home.

Have a presidential themed party. When guests arrive you can divide them up into different party groups with hats, campaign buttons or signs to carry around. There can be democrats, republicans and the independents. Throw a mini election for the president of the party. Guests can volunteer to run and even have a debate with the candidates listing what they'll do to make this a better party. Then count up the votes and inaugurate the new president. Their perks can be deciding what music to play or suggesting weird new party rules. After your President's day party is over guests can go home with memories of a fun and unusual party.
