Wood flooring can greatly improve the value of your home. They look great, easy to maintain and clean, cheap to install, and long lasting. I'm not talking about actual wood flooring. What I am referring to is laminate flooring. Looks just like hard wood, but made out of a material that is easier to install and its a little more forgiving when it comes to accidents that might occur in the home. To install, start by removing your current flooring. Either carpet, previous wood, or tiles. The next step is to clean the underlying floor boards. Sweep up any dirt and debris, then a light mop with disinfectant. The next step is to put down underlayment. There is special material hardware stores sell for this purpose. However, using felt paper works just as well and is cheaper. Felt paper is the material used underneath shingles on a roof. After the felt paper has been laid down, its time to lay the laminate flooring. Start on one side of the room and alter the breaks in the groves so they do not all line up. Each piece is tongue and groove and go together easily. You will need a table saw to cut pieces for length and to go around vents and doors. The last step is to put back baseboards and any other trim that had to be removed in order to remove the old flooring. |
