Are You Looking to Change Jobs or Just Find One?

Author: Dennis Mecca

Resume writing may seem like one of the most daunting tasks ever. It is also one of the most important things you must do if you hope to get the sought after interview. I can still recall way-back-when. I was in my early twenties and realized that a job I had taken at a friend's company was not working out. It was a sales job at a company my friend said he was a partner in. After resigning my very stable job with a fortune 100 company, moving across the country, I found out it really wasn't everything I was told. My friend made it appear so incredibly good that it was hard for me to turn it down. He had the Mercedes, the nice house in Belmont Hills on the San Francisco peninsula and the toys to go along with it.

Does smoke and mirrors mean anything? I should have asked more questions but I was of the mindset that I could do anything I set my mind to. Maybe I should have stayed, but the timing wasn't right. Anyway, I then had to write my own resume. It seemed like the most difficult thing to do and the pressure was on. Looking back on it now, I made it so difficult on myself. It's really not that hard. Take your time, do your homework, it will pay off. Think of it as your ticket to get in the door to meet the decision maker. The bottom line is, that's your goal, to get your chance to say hello in person, to meet the decision maker to get a sense of chemistry and move forward from there. There are so many resources available on the internet that I didn't have available to me at that time. Some are free while others you'll have to pay for. Fortunately for me, I had a good friend in Foster City that spent time with me to create my resume.

Putting together a resume is the first step in the process. The next step is the interview. That's when you really have to do some preparation. Once again, it's really not all that hard, just be yourself.
