Wedding Anniversary Gifts

Author: Gail Leino

Wedding Anniversary gifts are given to the couple or exchanged between the spouses of a couple and there really are no rules concerning who gets what and when. Sometimes the perfect anniversary gift is that new dishwasher, other times it can be something that harkens back to the day the couple got married, such as a new diamond anniversary ring. It really depends on the couple or the spouse in question. Some people aren't sure what to get and prefer to see what kinds of gifts are traditional.

The first wedding anniversary starts with paper, traditionally a card or maybe some nice paper flowers. Then with each anniversary the gifts get better until you reach the golden year of your fiftieth anniversary. Some couples are living longer these days though so the anniversary gifts have to keep getting better. The sixtieth anniversary is the diamond year and the seventy fifth anniversaries is the platinum year.

So depending on the year of their anniversary you can pick out a gift based on it. The fifth anniversary is the wood year. Perhaps you can buy a bonsai tree for the couple to care for together. The fifteenth anniversary is the crystal year, so buy them some nice crystal stemware.

You aren't restricted by the traditional types of gifts for each wedding year. The only true limit is your creativity and imagination. If you want to give a diamond ring on the third year go ahead and do it. Your spouse will love it. If you want to use the traditional gift years as a starting point for something else, have at it. For example, ivory is the traditional gift for the fourteenth year but it's illegal to import and many find it undesirable to support the Ivory industry. How about taking your spouse to see a real live elephant, perhaps even pay for a ride on one?
