FrameMaker has a very powerful cross referencing (linking) functionality. You can easily refer to another section or element in your book by a hyper-link that will be alive when you save your document as a PDF file. Since I have explained the basics of creating a cross reference in another article, here Ill focus on the different styles and formats in which you can insert such cross references. Select Special > Cross Reference (or use the very useful Esc+S+C hotkey shortcut) to launch the Cross Reference dialog box. Select a REFERENCE FORMAT from the drop-down box and then click the EDIT button to display the EDIT CROSS-REFERENCE FORMAT dialog box. If youd like to just edit an existing format, make your edits in the DEFINITION field. You can enter building blocks like Emphasis or Page Number easily from the BUILDING BLOCKS list. When you are done, click CHANGE, and then click DONE. However, if youd like to create a totally new cross reference format, give it a new NAME and then click ADD. The new format will be added to the list and will appear in the REFERENCE FORMAT drop-down list every time youd like to create a cross reference in the future. To DELETE a format, select it from the list of formats and then click the DELETE button. |
