Vacation Packing for Traveling to a Tropical Climate

Author: Gail Leino

Usually we dont spend much time thinking about what we will take when we start packing for that vacation, whether its for a hot or cold climate. In the case of a tropical clime you have a few special considerations to make in your packing.

It is going to be hot and often these tropical places have a lot of humidity, so it will feel rather sticky out from time to time. Think light and casual in your packing. Cotton fabrics will wick moisture away from the skin and they dry quickly help you to feel a little better outside. On a personal note think about picking up an extra strength anti-per spirant for your underarms cause the regular stuff may not cut it in this tropical environment.

Another good way to pack appropriately for the climate is to check the weather ahead of time that means going online and checking out some of the weather forecasts for the week ahead in your vacation destination. If you are going to be spending much more time there, say in the form of many weeks you can do a little research in almanacs and find out what the climate is like normally at the time of year you will be spending there.

Beware the sun. Most tropical climes are close to the equator and thus are much closer to the sun. You should take a nice hat or head covering that wont feel restrictive and dont forget that sunscreen. A good skin lotion or make up product with a mild SPF will help to protect you if you do forget to put on the stronger suntan lotion when you head outside.

On a tropical vacation you may be tempted just to take a pair of flip-flops which do have their place, but you will almost certainly spend some time indoors or you may get the urge to go on a little nature walk. A variety of footwear can help you greatly. You can take the flip flops, and a pair of deck shoes or woven sandals for indoor use. A back up pair of old tennis shoes may serve for that nature walk.
